Who We Are

The PA Champion Tree Program is a program of the Pennsylvania Forestry Association (PFA).

We are an entirely volunteer-run program.

Aaron Greenberg is the State Coordinator for the PA Champion Tree Program. He manages this website, keeps the list updated, and handles all correspondence. He also loves to get out and measure big trees, and to train volunteer tree measurers to help! Aaron is an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist and works as Arboretum Manager for Laurel Hill and West Laurel Hill Cemeteries in the Philadelphia area.

Scott Wade was the State Coordinator for many years and was single-handedly responsible for keeping the program alive. While he has stepped down as leader of the program, Scott remains very much involved in measuring champion trees, and is often finding new amazing specimens to submit. Scott is an ISA Certified Arborist and works at Longwood Gardens and as a consulting arborist.

We also have a team of trained volunteers who help us by finding, measuring, and re-measuring the trees on our list.

We all work together to keep the PA Big Tree List accurate, up-to-date, and useful for you!

Get Involved

Want to get involved with the PA Big Tree Program? There are a few ways to do that.

  1. Nominate a tree! Using the simple measuring technique on this website you can measure and submit a big tree you know. Use the nomination form and nominate your tree! If its big enough for its species, it may make it onto the list
  2. VOLUNTEER! If you'd like to be a trained Big Tree Program Volunteer, send us an e-mail at pabigtrees@gmail.com to express your interest! You may need to make a small investment in some tools to get started. We can use all the help we can get!
  3. DONATE to our parent organization, the Pennsylvania Forestry Association (PFA) to help support this program and all of the other great work that the PFA does: Pennsylvania Forestry Association
